Being Yourself

'Be Yourself' - how often did any one of us hear these words thrown at us through the course of our lives? I am writing this post with my experiences growing up in Southern India and later on travelling outside the country for work, so I have been fortunate enough to experience the cultures from two countries on different sides of the globe.

From a very little age we have always been told to follow certain ideals/morals/codes of conduct and as life progresses to follow the same set of thoughts from successful people. This is not something new and has been around us for quite a long time, it is only natural for someone to look at something more dominant or successful than themselves and aspire for that. We all have known great legends who had followed their role model's footsteps and became successful in their own ways. But when you think about it from another perspective, it is all about more and more people falling into the same pattern which is like this invisible die-cast that people pass through resulting in same models.

Each individual on this planet I believe has the an enormous potential within them and as varied as the people are, so does their potential which presents us with a vast pool of genuine talent. But is this being exploited in its own intricate way is what we need to think about. When in school almost everyone of us is told to study well, score good marks and be the best student in the class; little do we know that there might only be a few kids in a class that can perform exceptionally well at studies. Often what happens to the rest of the kids for whom academics seems a little too much is that they get branded as under performers and fall under the impeccable pressure from the grown-ups to try and compete with the top performers. Most of the times people do not realize that each kid has their own way of perceiving what is taught and may not grasp it as quick as others; and instead of trying to find their comfort level in learning they just get blamed blatantly for not being on par with others.

The education system that I had grown up in is fiercely competitive and whether you like it or not you need to play by its rules. The grades we get in school and college are seen as benchmarks for the society around us to decide whether or not we will do well in life, which is sadly still the situation in many places and growing worse at an alarming rate. One thing which most of us fail to realize early in our lives is about the innate potential within ourselves; partly this could be an outcome of the almost blind race we run to get 'settled' in life and partly due to the fact that we do not look at it with that much intensity. When people especially kids get sidetracked at an early age with a label of an 'under performer' it becomes very hard for the majority of them to break the glass and come out hard. We do have many great people who were side tracked at an early age but fought against all odds to make their mark in the world, the sad thing is this only happens with a minority.

Most of the times the only little thing which can create wonders in anybody's life are a few Encouraging words, a little token of appreciation when you do something that you are good at and not just appreciating blindly for anything which compares to another person. Telling someone that they are good at something which they did on their own is the biggest self confidence booster that can empower a person to do wonders. Sadly, that kind of an opportunity presents itself to a very few people early in their life/careers while most people of the bunch realize it only later when they are stuck with a job or life which they do not like. All of the motivation to get into the race and pace forward far ahead of everyone else is mostly monetary; the apparent link that money has on success is pretty dominant in this world and almost everyone has that perception. So as long as the world moves on to progress with financial independence as the main basis, we will continue to see more and more steryotyped people being churned out of this 'World-Factory'.

That is what it has come to in recent times, we no longer have people who seek to be happy even if they do not posses much; it is always the opposite - the more money you have the better off you will be and your happiness levels. While a very few segment of people continue to be inspired by their inner calling and reach out to the stars, the rest of us are left to the wheel of time which bring us up in a methodical manner teaching us more to live within the walls of the bigger System which man has designed. But all is not lost, the hope in a few hearts that they can change the way the world is being perceived can have a tsunami effect on the countless people who have lost all hope and live the systematic life. The power we have in us is to cheer, encourage, boost and motivate the people around us which will in turn help us to elevate ourselves to a better spiritual being for that I believe will unlock the true potential of what we are really meant to be. Let go off all the hysterical baggage of thoughts and emotions which have bogged you down so low, listen to your heart and feel the joy of Being Yourself!

Look within guys, for that is where the Magic begins... It is never too late to live your Dreams...
