Thoughts on the Decreasing Morale
To write on a topic after this long has been a thought on my mind for quite some time now, but somehow it did not happen. Now, even though late it is the right time that I share my thoughts on the topic which has been much talked about in our country during the last few months. There is a lot more to talk and write on this topic, but I have just consolidated the thoughts running across in my mind for each of you to ponder upon.
By now, most of you might would have a fair idea on what this post would be. Yes, it is about the horrifying and very sad incidents of violence towards women happening around us. To look at the reasons behind such intentions, there are multiple faces and varying provocations. First, let us look at the current society in which we are living today. India is slowly emerging as a Global power and is in the transition path of moving from a Developing to Developed nation, during this phase what strikes me the most is the way in which the people of India have transitioned since our Independence since 1947. Though not much proficient about the Indian history, what can be said for sure is that our culture has also transitioned to the 'New Generation' culture of the youth today. In the photos taken across the nation some around 50 years ago, we would see the traditional way of dressing in each state; each distinct in its own way and showcasing the pride of our varying traditions. Now if we look at the culture prevalent in our leading metro cities it is very evident that it has all been westernized.
Another major factor which has been influencing the decreasing morale is Technology. Since the evident of mobile phones and Internet, there has been a lot of unwanted exposure to the young generation. The increasing number of mobile phone among school students has been more than a bane than a boon. And not to mention the ever-increasing 'masala' in movies which are a direct way of provoking the thoughts of our innocent youth. In the days of our parents, where people used to be a part of joint families though the parents used to be out for work there were the grandparents to talk to and guide the children. Today what we see a lot of nuclear families where children are left alone till the evening and pampered by parents with access to the endless world of Internet. This is not a direct take on such parents, we do see children who have harnessed the information offered to them and come out with stunning achievements. But sadly, that is only a very small percentage of the whole youth; the rest are already talking about the sizzling item numbers seen on TV and YouTube. And not to leave the contribution of mobile phones which now come loaded with all the advanced features opening a world of both possibility and ignorance to the next Gen.
The basics of sex-education which should be taught in a disciplined manner in schools is now flowing in the opposite direction in the likes of attraction, lust, urge and later as crimes starting right at the juvenile level to the senior citizens. Earlier as I mentioned a while ago, it was the responsibility of the grandparents of an household to raise their grandchildren with good morale. In these days of never ending human need, we see families drifting away from their roots and establishing themselves in various corners of the nation in the race for accumulating wealth. No matter how much fast we run behind the comforts of life and find a false satisfaction after achieving them; the thing to keep in mind is how much time is spent with the family. Every parent should take it on as his first responsibility to create awareness among their children on the importance of women in society and how each man should treat a woman. It is only this subtle effort, if taken seriously within each household shall the crimes relating to the violence towards woman to an end.
There have been talks of grave punishments prevalent among some nations in the world where such culprits are subjected to very severe punishments such as beheading and stoning; and by adopting these measures our nation would also experience the decrease in the number of crimes. But sadly, we live in a democratic nation which is run by the elected members of the parliament where corruption is a dominating factor leaves the justice of the needy with the lowest importance unless and until the whole nation erupts for it. Yes, we have seen recently how the pulse of the nation got enraged together for fighting the cause of the girl who was a victim in the hands of meat-thirsty butchers. Even then we see the judiciary acting at a snail's pace even for such a sensational issue in the nation where the beasts are part of the trail in the apex courts of the country. Though the culprits themselves said that they were guilty, it has to be held right by the judicial system and later convicted.
Why is such an ignorance been slapped on the face of the common man when he/she earns for justice? Why can't there be a just and powerful system which can stop such incidents once and for all? When can we be sure of our fellow country men that no harm will be done to our sisters, cousins, teachers and the like? These questions will be ringing in each of our minds until the next topic creeps up. Stand up, Act and Be Responsible for making sure that at least among our friends, relatives and family are aware of their rights. Education does not stop at school or after post-graduation, the moral education among our society must continue until the women of our society no longer have the fear of being suppressed by the stronger sex - Men.
